Editing Services

Parson’s Porch does not require an author to use our editing services. Most author’s are there own editors.

If you prefer professional editing, our editing team is ready to help you with the following services. Choose the one which best fits your needs and budget.

Copyediting

Whether you're an aspiring author just starting out, or a published writer working on your latest project, objective professional editing is an important factor in the quality of your book.

FEE: We charge 1 cent per word per readthrough. We recommend 3 readthroughs as complete copyediting.

Example: A 50,000 word book would cost $500 for one readthrough.

Indexing

An index enables your readers to find information quickly and easily in your published manuscript. It will greatly improve the reading experience and will improve cohesiveness, consistency, accuracy, and usefulness. If you would like to include an index in your manuscript, Overall provides two methods for doing so.

Data Entry Services

$2.50 per Page

As a leader in digital technology, Overall Books has developed a Data Entry service to assist authors who do not have their manuscripts in electronic format. The goal of the Data Entry process is to provide authors with a reliable, fast, and inexpensive service to convert their paper manuscript into a digital format. Our process provides a high degree of accuracy for an incomparable price.

The Data Entry service costs $2.50 per page, which is based on a standard font size (12 pt.), double-spaced manuscript.

Here’s how it works:

  • Submit a copy of your manuscript to Overall for Data Entry. Please do not make any handwritten edits or mark the manuscript in any way. You will have the opportunity to make all edits after the Data Entry has been completed.

  • Overall then performs the conversion from paper into a word processing file, reviews the material for data entry errors, and does a spell check on entered data.

  • Overall then sends you an electronic version of the book by disk or email, with the manuscript saved as an .RTF (Rich Text Format) file and instructions for reviewing the material.

  • You carefully review the file against your original, and have the opportunity to make any final edits or changes to the book file.

  • Return the final manuscript to us so we can begin the self-publishing process and turn your manuscript into a published book.

*This service is applicable for typewritten manuscripts only. Authors who have a handwritten manuscript should purchase the Data Entry – Handwritten service.

Developmental Editing

The Developmental Editing service combines three editorial services into one package: First, a developmental editor evaluates the manuscript at the paragraph, chapter, and book levels and identifies big-picture areas that need work.

  • For fiction works, the editor will analyze the readership and genre to determine whether the content is appropriate. Then, things such as plot, pace, characterization, and dialogue will be closely examined.

  • For nonfiction titles, the editor will analyze the possible uses of the work to determine that the content is complete and appropriate, concepts are developed adequately, and the material is well-organized. The editor will make sure that all lists, graphs, and illustrations are used effectively throughout the book.

Once big-picture changes have been made, the second step, a free Content Edit, begins. The content editor will check the manuscript for errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Finally, the manuscript will receive a Quality Review to ensure the manuscript is editorially sound before it goes into production.

*There is a 5,000-word minimum charge for all editing services.
